Spanish Ministry of Defense Recruitment Portal

A mobile web portal for the Spanish Armed Forces

Reclutamiento.defensa.gob.es is the Spanish Ministry of Defense recruiting website, containing general information about career opportunities, available positions, and qualifications required to join the Army.

In 2010, I helped adapt the website to be accessible through mobile devices. Taking into account the highly differentiated capabilities, usage constraints, and technicals limitations of smartphones and cellular networks at the time, I designed a simple but powerful and elegant solution to allow visitors to easily find all the information they need and start their recruiting process.

My responsibilities:
  • Information architecture: designing the site map and user flows for key tasks, considering different user roles, access, and permission levels. An interesting part of this project was using motivation mapping to identify user types based on their different ambitions, profiles, and contexts in order to ensure we were designing for all of them.
  • Low-resolution prototyping: creating more than 100 wireframes and adapting them to different screen sizes and navigation interfaces (touchscreen, pointer, and cursor).
